British Antique 1930s Solid Oak Oval Dining Table Jacobean Style
In Britain, from the late 19th to the early 20th century, furniture reinterpreting the 17th-century Jacobean style was widely produced.
It is characterized by its robust construction using oak wood, decorative turned legs, and sturdy structures incorporating stretchers, and is still cherished today as one of the representative styles of British antique furniture.
This is an antique British oval dining table.
Although no hallmarks or labels indicating its age can be confirmed, based on its design, structure, hardware used, and the aged condition of the wood, it is believed to have been manufactured around the early 1900s.
The spacious oval top, measuring 183cm wide and 121cm deep, is made of solid oak.
In addition to the strong grain and deep color unique to oak that has aged over many years, the four legs with continuous spherical turnings and the X-shaped stretcher connecting them create a dignified presence typical of classic British furniture.
The tabletop had extensive paint peeling when it arrived, so it was sanded while preserving as much of the patina created by age and years of use as possible.
Patina refers to the unique luster, color, and well-worn texture that furniture develops over many years.
After repeated sanding and painting, it was carefully repainted using French polish, a traditional finishing method for antique furniture.
Finally, beeswax wax was applied to adjust the luster while enhancing the oak grain and the unique expression of furniture that has aged over many years.
The legs have also been maintained with oil.
The large 183cm wide tabletop is a comfortable size for about 6 people.
Although it feels substantial due to its oval shape, it has no corners, giving a soft impression to the space.
It is recommended not only for classical dining with British antique chairs but also for mixed styles combining simple modern furniture or Scandinavian vintage.
