Keyaki Solid Slab Coffee Table, Wiped Lacquer, Solid Wood, Low Table, Japanese Modern
This is a center table luxuriously made from a single slab of zelkova wood.
Zelkova is a native Japanese hardwood that has been cherished for furniture and building materials since ancient times, thanks to its strong and beautiful grain, high strength, and durability.
This product features a single zelkova slab as its top, finished with traditional fuki-urushi (wipe lacquer) to highlight the natural beauty of the material.
Fuki-urushi is a technique that involves repeatedly applying lacquer to the wood and wiping off the excess, which accentuates the wood grain and creates a deep, lustrous finish.
The tabletop showcases the expansive grain unique to zelkova, and the warm color and luster from the fuki-urushi further enhance the material's charm.
The legs, based on straight lines, feature a stable structure where the left and right legs are connected by a through-bar.
While possessing the presence of a single slab, it is not excessively ornate, resulting in a refined and calm Japanese modern aesthetic.
Upon arrival, the tabletop's finish was almost completely peeled off, so after carefully sanding the surface, it was refinished with multiple applications and wipings of lacquer.
The legs have also been oil-maintained, resulting in a finish that highlights the zelkova's original grain and texture.
Recommended not only for Japanese-style rooms and tatami spaces but also for interiors that blend Japanese and Western styles, combining solid wood furniture or Scandinavian vintage pieces.
With a sleek size of 115cm wide and 47cm deep, it's perfect as a low table or zaisu in the living room, and it also naturally blends into spaces like ryokan (Japanese inns), restaurants, old house cafes, and shops.
