Kyushu Folk Craft Furniture Tea Cabinet Mizume Cherry Wood 93cm Wide Sliding Doors 5 Drawers
Kyushu Mingei Furniture is a Japanese furniture brand that developed in the spirit of the Mingei movement advocated by Soetsu Yanagi, following the tradition of Matsumoto Mingei Furniture.
Utilizing high-quality wood such as Japanese cherry birch and the craftsmanship of artisans, the brand has produced numerous tasteful pieces that cherish the natural expression and practicality of the materials.
Even after its workshop closed in 2009, its solid construction and distinctive appearance continue to earn it high acclaim as vintage Mingei furniture.
This is a tea chest by Kyushu Mingei Furniture, made from Japanese cherry birch.
It is an impressive piece with the rich wood grain of Japanese cherry birch finished in a deep brown, and the unique variations in tone inherent to the material visible throughout.
The upper part features an open space for displaying dishes and small items, while below it, there are sliding doors with fine horizontal slats.
It exudes a simple yet meticulously crafted wooden aesthetic, creating the characteristic tasteful presence of Kyushu Mingei furniture.
Inside the sliding doors, there are shelves, and below, there are a total of five drawers: three small ones and two wide ones.
It's easy to organize tea ceremony utensils, dishes, and daily necessities according to their purpose, and with a width of 93cm and depth of 39cm, it offers ample storage while being a relatively manageable size.
In addition to being used as a traditional tea chest in a Japanese-style room, it is also recommended as a living room cabinet, display shelf, or storage for dishes and collections.
When combined with ceramics, Mingei pottery, baskets, or antique tools, the rustic charm of the materials is further highlighted, making it suitable for Japanese modern, Japandi, or old folk house styles, or even as a single accent piece in a contemporary space.
This is a rare piece of Kyushu Mingei furniture, where the aged wood grain of Japanese cherry birch and the intricate details of handcrafted design are in harmony.
