【Product Description】

Maruni Wood Industry (MARUNI) is a leading Japanese furniture manufacturer founded in Hiroshima in 1928.
Under the slogan of "industrialization of crafts," the company has established advanced woodworking and mass production technologies, creating numerous pieces of furniture that adapt to the lifestyles of each era.


This is an old Maruni center table featuring the company's old "Peacock Mark" logo.


The Peacock Mark was used from 1952 to 1976. Given its age and modern design combining rosewood with black steel, this item is believed to have been manufactured around the 1960s.


The tabletop is made of rosewood, which has deep tones and beautiful flowing grain.
The combination of a clean, rectangular tabletop and slender black steel T-shaped legs enhances the rich expression of the wood while giving a light and sharp impression.


The straight-line form with minimal ornamentation and the combination of different materials like wood and metal evoke the functionality and aesthetic beauty unique to 1960s Mid-Century design.
Even when incorporated into modern interiors, this old Maruni piece with its modern appeal doesn't feel outdated.


Upon arrival, the tabletop's coating showed some haziness, so the existing film was lightly re-sanded using sponge sanding.
Afterward, oil was applied to bring out the color and grain of the rosewood, and finally, a thin lacquer coating was applied to smooth the surface.


The rich grain of rosewood and the sleek lines of black steel pair well with Scandinavian vintage and Japanese Mid-Century furniture.
By combining it with works by Herman Miller's Eames, George Nelson's furniture, or Knoll's modern furniture from the same era, you can enjoy a Mid-Century style that transcends national and brand boundaries, characteristic of the 1960s.


With a width of 119cm and depth of 47cm, its long and slim proportions make it easy to incorporate as a center table in front of a sofa without feeling oppressive, and it pairs well with leather sofas and lounge chairs.
It is also recommended as a display table for galleries or shops.

【Condition】

*The tabletop's coating showed haziness, so the existing film was lightly re-sanded using sponge sanding.

*The steel legs show fine scratches, scuffs, and partial paint wear.
*As this is a vintage piece of furniture believed to be from around the 1960s, there are minor signs of use due to age, but there is no major noticeable damage, and it is in good, maintained condition.
